Windsurf Foil - Session #4
Many of you, like myself, have been wondering what the learning curve is like to learn windsurf foiling. Today was session #4 for me. As many of you know, I got 2 days on a foil in Florida in February. Here is the link to that blog post My First Impressions of Windsurf Foiling. And this week it was finally warm enough to get 2 more sessions locally. Below is a brief video clip showing the progress you can make in 4 sessions. Near the end of session number four I was able to carve upwind into the tack while on foil, then land on the water for the transition, and then start foiling again right away. I was pretty excited about that. This video does not show the tack, but it shows how you can easily pump the foil with your legs. On a 5.3m sail it takes about 12mph of wind with gusts of 15mph at my beginner level. I suspect that with a few months of practice I could use a 4.7m sail in the same conditions, especially in the open lake where there are small waves to help get up on foil.
