Real Weight Loss Programming
Losing weight can be a very frustrating task. Research shows that almost 80% of people who lose weight gain it all back within one year. 85% of people who lose weight gain it all back within two years, and 95% of people who lose weight gain it all back within three years. Even more frustrating is research that shows that, of the 95% who gain back all the weight they lost, between 1/3 and 2/3 of them actually gain back more weight than before they originally started their diet.
This points to one HUGE factor....your weight loss program MUST be sustainable. Your weight loss program CANNOT be a 12 week fad to lose a few pounds. It CANNOT be a short-term eating pattern so that you look better for your beach vacation in a couple months. Your weight loss program MUST be a new sustainable approach to life.
Each person's approach to weight loss may need to be different because everyone leads a different life. One person, for example, who works 20-hour work shifts three times a week may not be able to follow the same weight loss program as a person who works a 9-5 job, or another person who travels 4 days per week. Your weight loss program must be customized to you. While the approach to weight loss may differ from person to person, the science does NOT differ. Weight loss occurs for one reason only...CALORIES EXPENDED ARE GREATER THAN CALORIES CONSUMED. Numerous scientific studies prove that, when it comes to weight loss, it does NOT matter if you use low carb, high carb, keto, low fat, high fat, carnivore, vegan, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc. There is NO DIFFERENCE in weight loss between any of these programs when calories are equated in each program. Some programs may be healthier than others. Some programs may be easier for you to adhere to than others. Some programs may be more enjoyable for you than others. But, there is no difference in weight loss.
What does make a difference is the amount energy coming into your body, the amount of energy going out of your body, and the adjustments you make to your program as these things change. Yes, these things do change! Your metabolism, for example, is constantly changing speed, especially when you are dieting. You MUST understand the real SCIENCE behind this and learn how to adjust as your weight loss program progresses so that you continue to lose weight. Otherwise, you will end up as a statistic like those in the opening paragraph above. Have you ever heard someone say that they were losing weight, but then the weight loss stopped? They use the excuse that they "hit a plateau". That's baloney! It's because they did not understand the SCIENCE. Metabolism changes, and they did not adjust. There is no imaginary weight-loss plateau in science. What really happened is that energy expenditure changed, and a few minor adjustments are needed in your program.
In order to successfully lose weight and keep it off you need more education to learn the science. Then you may need a coach to help you recognize what is happening with your body and help you make adjustments at the appropriate time and in a healthy way.
