- Learn To Cold Plunge: This is by far the MOST IMPORTANT. Modern humans live in year-round summer at 72 degrees in their homes, offices, cars, and businesses. Winter never comes. That’s fine if you live between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. But when you live outside of the tropics there is not enough daily sunlight in winter to give your suprachiasmatic nucleus the signals it needs to tell your hypothalamus to burn fat. You MUST tell your hypothalamus that it’s winter, and the only way to do that is to physically get cold. When you live outside the tropics the summer and autumn are the seasons to gain fat from an evolutionary perspective, and winter is the season to use and lose that fat. If your hypothalamus thinks winter is never coming then you will always be in fat gaining mode. Flip the switch by learning how to safely cold plunge every day. Start learning about this with Dr. Thomas Seager of Arizona State University.
- Eliminate Blue Light: Everybody knows that chronically elevated cortisol triggers glucose and insulin which then causes weight gain. Guess what chronically elevates cortisol that your doctor never told you about? It’s raw blue light. Blue from the sun is fine because it is ALWAYS accompanied by the other wavelengths of light. But raw blue light from your phone screen, ceiling lights, computers, tablets, LED car headlights, will make you fat. The wavelength of blue light forces POMC (which I’ve talked about many times) to cleave into ACTH and CLIP. There two hormones force your body to make glucose and insulin. You store fat. Get the blue light out of your life. Read the work of Dr. Jack Kruse to learn more about this.
- Get Natural Sunlight At Specific Times: You cannot fully turn on Kreb’s Cycle if you don’t see the sunrise. You cannot make the correct hormones in the correct amount at the correct time if you don’t see the sunrise. And you cannot lose weight if those two things are not completed every morning at sunrise. For the rest of your life never miss seeing the sunrise, even if it’s cloudy, even if it’s snowing, even if it’s raining or foggy. That light drives your metabolism for the entire day. UV light from the sun later in the day actives the proopiomelanocortin pathway which makes a hormone called alpha-MSH. This is the same hormone that stimulates your cells to make melanin so that you get tan. It also modulates your immune system. But alpha-MSH does something far more powerful. It controls metabolism, and particularly hunger. Have you ever gone to the beach and notice that you’re not as hungry when you’ve been in the hot sun? It’s because of alpha-MSH. So, get a suntan as often as you can. Don’t get sunburn though. Read the work of Dr. Jack Kruse to learn more about this.
- Eat A Ketogenic Diet: When you combine #1 and #3 with a ketogenic diet you get a massive boost. It's the Holy Trinity: cold plunging, sunlight, and ketosis. It's not 1+1+1=3, rather it's 1+1+1=100. This combination turns on the ancient pathway buried in all mammals called the leptinmelanocortin pathway. It's more powerful than any weight loss drug. Once activated you turn off neuropeptide Y (carb craving) and agouti-related peptide (hunger). Your fat cells produce massive amounts of leptin and your receptors become much more sensitive. Alpha MSH increases and hunger goes away. The combination of these 3 things supercharges your body. Start with scientist Isabella Cooper of the University of Westminster. She has done detailed, in-depth studies with human subjects looking at dozens and dozens of bio-markers, including blood glucose, for subjects on a ketogenic diet versus a standard diet. She found that all subjects progress toward disease on a standard diet and progressed away from disease on a ketogenic diet in only 3 weeks of exposure to the diets. There are many other scientists as well.
- Eliminate Stress: Just as chronically elevated cortisol from blue light will make you fat, so will cortisol from stress. Learn to meditate daily. Learn to structure your life so there is more space. Take time to do less.
