- Fatty tongue, like fatty liver, occurs from insulin resistance. This build up of fat on the tongue can block the airway during sleep. Strict ketogenic diets can target the fat of the tongue and liver.
- Hypothyroidism cause water retention in the tissue of the airway.
- Oxalates may accumulate in the tissue of the airway causing inflammation and narrowing of the airway. Use a low oxalate diet to remove oxalates from the body.
- Silent acid reflux can irritate the airway causing inflammation. Sleep on an inclined wedge.
- Weak muscles of the airway may need myofunctional therapy.
- Iron accumulation in cells and mitochondria may bind to oxygen and result in hypoxia. Donate blood every 3 months to reduce iron in the body.
- Sleep apnea may be protective in the sense that too much oxygen in the mitochondria could result in too much ROS, so the cell and brain limit the amount of oxygen you consume (central sleep apnea).
- Covid-19 is known to cause sleep apnea.
